This isn’t a space story. It’s a startup story. It’s one all too familiar to any entrepreneur. The difference here is a lot more money, a tropical island, lots of explosions and the goal to save mankind.

I finished this one up with just a few hours to spare for my monthly GORUCK Tribe Challenge.

You’ve seen the movie. You know the rules.

The movie pretty much follows the same path as the book with just a few notable differences, especially the ending which was changed, I’m guessing, to be more Hollywood.

Perhaps the book is about capitalism vs anarchy. Probably because I was reading it in the lens of GORUCK, this time I focused more on enduring misery alone vs overcoming misery with a group of like minded crazies. After all, that’s what a GORUCK event…

Statistically it is nearly impossible that we are the only intelligent species in existence. Scientists approximate there are at least 60 billion Earth-like habitable planets. It is the height of hubris to believe we are alone.

Avi Loeb dives deep into the studies and research of extraterrestrial life with his belief that Oumuamua, the first object of interstellar origin observed by humans, was built by intelligent beings. By the way, a new study released just this week argues otherwise, stating it is a piece that broke off a Pluto-like interstellar planet.

Let’s talk about tripping mushrooms.

Let me start by stating clearly that I have never done hard drugs. I was surrounded by cocaine, crack and meth for much of my younger life. I’ve never touched them. Ehh… I don’t know. Maybe I was just expecting something different from the sequel to Yuval Noah Harari’s hit Sapiens.

Sapiens is a well researched and thoughtful explanation of humanity’s past. Homo Deus is supposed to be the author’s theories on humanity’s future. I was expecting many thoughts on AI, space travel and maybe even the future of globalization. Instead we are mainly presented a treatise on atheism.

There’s a big man in the sky who takes you to his happy home when you die. All your family and friends are there too. But you’re only invited if you’re good here on Earth. Honestly, it sounds illogical and like a bunch of hogwash made up by people to keep us from fearing death and to keep us from killing each other.
